This gallery of photographs was taken from November 17-25, 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa while I attended the Drama For Life Africa Research Conference at the Professional Development Hub at the University of the Witwatersrand. Along with 11 researchers from McMaster University, Lakehead University, the University of the Witwatersrand, and the University of KwaZulu Natal, I presented preliminary results of my MA thesis study at a workshop that I co-organized with my MA thesis supervisor, Dr. Christina Sinding called, “Social Work Beyond Borders, Social Work Artfully”. The book, “Social Work Artfully: Beyond Borders and Boundaries” (Christina Sinding and Hazel Barnes Eds.) was released in 2015 by Wilfred Laurier University Press.
During the conference and workshop, we stayed at a bed and breakfast, called “Ginnegaap Guesthouse” in Melville, which is an older neighbourhood in Joburg, and about a 15min drive from the university. We visited the Apartheid Museum, The Goodman Gallery, Circa Gallery, Constitution Hill, the Constitutional Court, and the Lion Park in Lanseria, South Africa. It was a trip I will always remember, especially as I am also half- South African, and visited South Africa for the first time!
