Artist Statement

As an African Canadian artist, I derive a sense of purpose from daily creative expression. I create to connect with my heritage, and use visual, multimodal, and digital methods and techniques in addition to writing, to disseminate my work with, and among members of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, as a way to collectively enable our journey of self-discovery.

Artist Statement

“Bein’ Seen” is a play on the title of the song by Joe Raposo, “Bein’ Green” (1970) that was created for Sesame Street. The song, and these works, are about self-acceptance, and being comfortable with being seen for who you are by people who you love and people who love you—no matter what.
